1969 Aston Martin DB6, 5 speed manual gearbox, finished in Silver Birch with Black Connolly hide interior using Vaumol hides; black, Wilton carpet throughout. Has the benefit of modern air conditioning, power assisted steering, 4.2L upgraded engine producing 319bhp, plus a continuous history with only four owners.
Supplied new by H.R. Owen, Berkley Square and registered to its first owner in February 1969, Geoff Frost of Sound Techniques who kept the car for almost fourteen years. Geoff ran a sound recording studio in Chelsea and all the well-known rock stars of the era including Elton John, Pink Floyd, The Who, Gerry Rafferty and Cat Stevens, to name just a few, used his recording studio. Sound Techniques also built the recording decks in Mildenhall, Suffolk and Geoff used the DB6 to commute between London and Suffolk. The car was maintained by RS Williams, bought by them, and sold to the second owner, Keith Booker, in October 1982.
The third owner purchased the car in March 1985 and kept the car for 32 years. Throughout this ownership, the car was maintained by Aston Martin specialist Post Vintage Engineering in Otley, West Yorkshire. Throughout the car was cared for regardless of cost, notable examples being several engine rebuilds along with a full body-off and documented rebuild of the aluminium and steel structure with new sills, chassis outriggers, door skins, front and rear valances and front assembly. During his ownership, he successfully campaigned the car gaining impressive competition records within the AMOC, ACOC and BARC, with over 62 1st and 2nd place finishes to his credit. In 2010 the engine was subject to a detailed and complete strip and rebuild which included a 4.2 litre block (the original block is included within the sale), fitting a new crankshaft, Carrillo connecting rods and Cosworth pistons. Carried out by Post Vintage, the work totalled over £17,000 and increased engine power from around 260bhp to 319bhp. The engine has only covered around 15,000 miles since. Included in the paperwork is a detailed listing of each event the car featured in, from 1986 to 2016, and is an enjoyable insight into the car's time winning many a title.
The current owner purchased the car in January 2017, from Post Vintage Engineering, who carried out a back to metal repaint, in Silver Birch prior to sale and generally recommissioned the car. The original air conditioning was replaced with a modern system, new heat and sound proofing installed plus a larger capacity radiator. In September 2021 Trinity Engineering started a meticulous and major overhaul at a cost of some £38,000, the priority was setting-up the suspension, ride and steering, and getting the car ‘right”, the DB6 is now in exceptional condition.
The history of the car is exceptional presented in five ring binders, all invoices for the last 40 years. MoTs, correspondence with Aston Martin on purchase, copies of the build sheet and original purchase/HP agreement.
