Older Aston Martins that have not yet undergone an engine rebuild or any substantial work carried out will be unable to run on unleaded fuel without the need for additives to protect the valve seats from degrading.
It is normally possible to convert these engines to run on unleaded fuel and depending on the engines overall condition it can be done without the need of a complete rebuild. This work involves the replacement of the inlet and exhaust valves, valve seats and guides with a harder material capable of running on modern fuels.
Once this work has been carried out normal unleaded or super unleaded fuels may be used alleviating the need for additives and generally achieving better performance and fuel consumption figures.
